Ep.65 | Social Media and Self-Development with Coach Andy

In this episode, Coach Andy and Eric provide your one stop shop for skating success. They cover the various microskills associated with skating that are worth your time and attention, namely: posture, edgework (turning), power development, speed vs. quickness, deceleration, crossovers, and more!

Show Notes and Resources

Coach Andy starts off this episode with a brief discussion on having ‘connections’ to get opportunities in hockey. They touch on agents and how to prepare yourself for opportunities rather than relying on someone else.

The boys then move on to discuss social media and how it is influencing kids today. Coach Eric provides a framework on how to use social media as a tool to facilitate your own development, rather than getting caught in a useless scrolling cycle.

This leads to a conversation on how people can ‘put a ceiling on themselves’ when establishing what they can achieve. They talk about the balance between belief in yourself and the tangible action necessary to achieve your goals and ‘break the ceiling’. The boys again reference the Wayne Gretzky interview mentioned by Coach Andy in the last episode, and his thoughts on young developing players.

They finish up answering a listener question about Prep School hockey. Coach Andy shares his thoughts and goes through the pros and cons of taking the Prep School hockey route.
