Show Notes and Resources

The boys start with a longer intro on various topics including the OHL/NHL schedules, coaching, the importance of roles in hockey, and the new Mark Messier Book titled “No One Wins Alone”. They spend time discussing lessons that Coach Andy pulled out of the book, and a bit on Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky, in particular.

From there, Coach Andy starts the skating workshop, making a point on his experience training players: many times young players (and/or their parents) will come to him without knowing what they need to work on. The boys discuss how important it is to analyze and understand your deficiencies as a player in order to optimize your training – especially with skating. They mention the fact that most skill work is boring, but is essential to tangible improvement in the game.

The rest of the episode focuses on the various skills associated with skating that are worth your time and attention, namely: posture, edgework (turning), power development, speed vs. quickness, deceleration, crossovers, and more!
